About this book
Bennett Pierce has had a crush on his co-worker Charlie for a long time. He is hardworking and serious and is misunderstood to be a playboy due to his popularity with the ladies. Charlie finds Bennett annoying because of his playboy persona and because he’s always calling her by the wrong name.
One day, Charlie finds her boyfriend cheating on her on a dating app. She creates a fake profile to catch him in the act and breaks up with him. Her break-up was unfortunately witnessed by her nemesis Bennett.
After her breakup, instead of deleting the app she finds herself striking up a friendship with “Adonis21”. Little does she know that “Adonis21” is actually Bennett, who was forced by his family to put himself out there and start dating. He puts the pieces together early on and figured out his online friend is actually Charlie, and as he withholds the truth about who he actually is, it becomes harder and harder to reveal his identity as they start falling for each other both in real life and online.
Book review
It’s a sweet story, with an enemies-to-lovers trope. I liked the witty banter and chemistry between Bennett and Charlie. It was adorable how Bennett who is successful in everything he does starts to behave like a middle school boy when faced with his crush.
The friendship among the co-workers seem solid as well. I imagine it must be fun working in the office with these characters and relax over drinks after work.
While the story was entertaining to read, it bothered me a little that Charlie seems very needy and cannot survive without a partner by her side for long. I would have preferred a stronger female character who is more independent and knows her own worth.
