by Tru Taylor

About this book

Angelina is a preschool teacher. She lives a sheltered life with a controlling mother and has been told all her life that she is to become a nun. Just before she enters religious service and begins her formal training to become a nun, she meets Sullivan who moved into her neighbourhood.

Sullivan is a big brute of a man, champion boxer but is soft when it comes to his 2 young daughters. His ex-wife decided she cannot take care of their little girls anymore and Sullivan suddenly finds himself in charge and clueless about caring for his girls. He engages Angelina as a nanny to care for his girls while he trains for an important competition.

As they interact, their undeniable attraction causes Angelina to question her life choices which she has always taken for granted.

Book review

A standalone novel which is part of a series of romance inspired by fairytales, this is the retelling of Rapunzel. Not cheesy at all and very well done with the retelling of this classic fairytale.

The sweetness and innocence of Angelina shone through, making her very likeable. Sullivan although physically overwhelming, is gentlemanly, charming and an absolutely indulgent father who is controlled by his two young daughters. The story focuses on Angelina’s internal struggles as she comes to grips with her life choices, questioning their roots and learning to be brave enough to take a different path.

I liked the story which is simple and reasonably paced. The only part which had me raising eyebrows was when Sullivan invited his ex-wife to his wedding in the end, which was really odd given that they were not exactly on friendly terms and she had behaved like a jealous ex who fired Angelina when they first met. So it felt like an abrupt turnabout when the ex got invited to the wedding and even volunteered to look after her daughters while Sullivan and Angelina went on their honeymoon, despite being adamant that being a mother cramped her lifestyle.
