Book review

Pulled in by the attractive covers and numerous recommendations on social media, this is the first book of Emily Henry’s that I’ve read. I enjoyed the writing – descriptions were vivid and allowed the readers to visualize the story as it moves along.

The length of the book was decent, about 400+ pages on an e-book version. The plot and characters were well-rounded and developed at a steady pace. The plot twist towards the end ties everything up very nicely, giving a surprising yet very reasonable closure on why Nora’s sister requested for the vacation and how the hero and heroine ended up together eventually even though they looked set to live in the small town and big city respectively. It was heartwarming to watch how the two main characters got to know each other, with Nora slowly realizing that her initial perception of Charlie was incorrect and that there were more good qualities in him than she thought.

Other than the primary romance theme, the author also explores other themes such as the sisterly bond between Nora and Libby, family ties, and small town life. I especially liked the behind-the-scenes view into the publishing world through Nora and Charlie, which is something that I’ve not come across very much before, so it feels like learning something new while enjoying how the story develops.

I’ve enjoyed the book and will certainly look forward to more stories by Emily Henry!
